The characters and setting of my novel, AESTHETIC CHARM, have become a familiar home to my mind. I began working on this piece in the summer of 2016 while awaiting the results of my master’s thesis in graduate school. At the time, reading and writing were constant activities, so waiting for the verdict on my research left me with idle hands. After watching Kate Winslet in Iris, on Amazon Prime, the idea of forgetting words left me horrified. I wanted a different ending for Dame Iris Murdoch, so I began a short story that turned into a novella which wanted to be a full-length novel.
Along the way, I realized how important Iris’s friends were to her own experiences – the curious ones, though numerous and complex, shifted from mysterious visions of beauty (shallow, a reader said) into purposeful forces of art. The curious ones support the novel’s theme: Art and Science combine for further human advancement. Each of the curious ones own a unique talent.
