Goblin Press Update…

Our goblin press chomps at the bit for novel-time. A few projects need our attention, but real-deal life has thrown some unexpected obstacles our way. No matter, though the challenges be unimaginably horrid, we will persevere. We shall overcome. Of interest, EMINENT VICTIM, Vol.II of THE GREY CHRONICLES series published on 13 October 2021 as promised – despite personal havoc. Well done, goblins!

Why the Fascination with ‘Goblins’?

Fun story, really… Years ago, my Dungeons & Dragons character took form – some of which came from inspiration from an ex-beau. My preference began with a chaotic-neutral female barbarian, and then I started thinking on her backstory:

Princess Quasi Luminous Appendamonium hailed from a broken kingdom, where the realm faced desecration from a neighboring overlord. Her royal ties destroyed, Princess Quasi found herself wandering the forest bereft of kin, supplies, and shelter. One dark night, she came upon a horde of goblins trapped within a poacher’s net. Sure, they were goblins, BUT the sight of warriors held against their will resonated with Quasi’s recent experience. Her family had been held captive, tortured, and, eventually, massacred. She, alone, escaped the clutches (and sadistic bedroom) of the overlord, using only her wits and strategic planning. Had someone – anyone – come to her aide, then, possibly, her traumatic memories would not direct her actions towards vengeance. Princess Quasi freed the goblin horde and silently nursed the wounded. Once recovered, she took her leave of them, continuing on with her miserable existence. Without a clear vision of how she would reap the rewards of justice, she resorted to laying low in the caves and avoiding the attentions of an adamant suitor, Sir Galadorn, who she rightly suspected to be in league with the wicked overlord. While the knight’s promises of devotion arrived through missives carried by ravens, the faithful birds cast woeful eyes upon Quasi, cawing their faithful warning. Galadorn’s schemes included owning our faire princess, shackling her with the undesirable bonds of matrimony. Quasi trusted no man, and she knew few friends. She did not expect the goblins to follow her, nor did she understand when they, in turn, defended her against a werewolf attack later that night. Ever since, the goblin horde follows Princess Quasi in an unspoken bond.

…therefore, envisioning a Goblin Press came natural. If the dark recesses of my mind maintained form, then they’d be goblins. I haven’t enjoyed a D&D game since my dear Brother Bill’s death in 2013, but – if ever I am to play again – it would be with Quasi, and her goblin horde would surely follow.
