The Grey Chronicles: Isle of Fey

Have you ever unknowingly written the prequel first? I’m not quite sure, but I think this is happening. AESTHETIC CHARM began as an idea to motivate a collegiate friend of mine with his research, morphing from a short-story into a novella, then novel of 79,000 words. I never intended the story to be a series, but I feel that my characters have more to share. Mainly, that AC laid the groundwork for adventures yet to come.

This morning around 4:00am, I decided to explore Iris’s possibilities whenever she leaves Wandering Falls for Ireland. However, this time around, I want to acknowledge that I am writing a novel and, therefore, approach the piece with clear direction. I decided I’d attempt outlining, and I found “The Novel Factory’s” guidance helpful with writing the Premise and Skeleton Outline. Check out her links if you’d like steps for outlining.

The premise is complete, and I am working on the outline this weekend. After my experience in December 2020’s #PitMad event, I learned that writing a pitch orders one’s thoughts. I’ve benefited from joining the Facebook group, PitMadHatters – in case any Hatters are here: Much love fellow artists! – where we read & critique each others writing. So far in 2021, we’ve exchanged a mini-beta group, worked on query letters, & formulated one-liners. I won’t be ready for March 4, 2021, but here is a link for PitchWars to keep me on track for future events. For this new #WIP, which I’m titling THE GREY CHRONICLES: ISLE OF FEY, I’m beginning with a pitch because writing a pitch after AC was complete really took a toll on my mind. Here is what I have so far…what do you think?

Elevator Pitch: Iris, heir to magick, agrees to ferry her wounded lover to the Isle of Fey and connect with her lost family. But the Dark Fey force Iris into spawning a cadre of demigods, making her choose between preserving humanity or slaughtering her own offspring.
